Sudden acceleration guzzles gas.
When driving, accelerate slowly; flooring your gas pedal pushes more fuel
to the engine than needed.
Under-inflated tires, open windows,
sunroofs, and extra weight can cause excessive drag; therefore, slowing
your vehicle down and using more gas to maintain your speed.
Excessive speeding decreases your
mileage by forcing your vehicle to overcome more wind resistance. Slow
down for safety and for fuel savings.
A clogged or dirty air-filter can make
your vehicle work harder; therefore, burning more gas. And a misfiring
spark plug can greatly reduce gas mileage. A well-maintained engine will
help you maximize gas mileage.
When stopped at a traffic light, you
can save gas by shifting your automatic transmission to neutral when the
car is at a standstill.
During the icy winter season, always
scrape the snow and ice from your vehicle. Frozen moisture adds wind
resistance and adds extra unnecessary weight causing you to burn more
gas.
